A Cozy Fall Foyer Tour with DIY Updates

Tour our fall foyer with decor and DIY updates.

Our foyer is packed with simple DIY updates that have made such a big
difference!

I recently worked on a couple of projects in that space and changed up some
decor, so I thought I’d give you a tour! Our entry is looking extra pretty
right now with the warm colors and fall touches.

The large entryway in our home is one of the first things I loved about the
layout when we walked through it at the beginning stages five years ago. I
love how open it is, and all the character the doorways and little vestibule
add.

I’ll share all of the DIY projects in this space at the end of the post, but
the most recent was
the custom air vent
I added to the wall above the trio of pictures:

This little project was one of my favorites I’ve done in awhile! I can’t
believe the difference this small vent cover made:

Next up was another trim work project! I’ve planned on replacing the
baseboards in here so they would match the chunkiness of the new door frames
I installed years ago.
This
tutorial for removing baseboards the easy way
will save you SO much frustration if you tackle a similar project! I share
some helpful tips that make tearing out baseboards easier and won’t
cause any damage to your walls or floor.
I used this simple 5.5 inch tall base
that I also installed in our powder room. The taller baseboards add
character and fit in much better with all of the molding throughout our
entryway:

I prefer not to use quarter round when possible because I just love the
simpler look. But you can definitely use it with this taller base if that’s
your preference!

I thought this baseboard project would take me an afternoon — I mean the
room is mostly doorways. 😉 But I forgot how looooong all the finishing
details take! The nail filling, caulking and paint touch ups took
forever.

So this “simple” project took a week instead of day, but it was so worth it!
I LOVE the taller base in here:

This one is metal instead of plastic and the light is much wider. It’s so
easy to slip it off the base and plug it in to recharge! (You do need to be
able to reach it to turn in on with the small touch pad on the side.)

And of course the fall decor makes everything so pretty and cozy! Like last
year, I’ve leaned more towards warm rust, mauve and burgundy touches instead
of the traditional fall colors:

I found
this gorgeous rug
a few weeks ago and knew it would look so lovely with the decor and wood tone
of the Everett table. It’s SO PRETTY!

Usually at this time of year I’m switching to darker home accents, but I just
fell in love with the colors and design of this rug. I like that it has plenty
of black to tie in with the mirror and light fixture:

One of my favorite paint tricks is to paint the ceiling in a room. I did it
a lot in our old house, but so far in this house I’ve only tackled smaller
rooms. This girl isn’t getting any younger. 🙂

The foyer ceiling is a light blue color called Upward (lightened 50 percent)
and it’s such a subtle but pretty detail. I love that it makes the crown
molding pop:

My fall decor is simple — just a couple rattan pumpkins (from Target last
year I believe), faux eucalyptus from Micheal’s (last year as well) and
these gorgeous twisted taper candles from Hobby Lobby:

The basket is filled with a bunch of our beautiful dried hydrangea
stems:

The color on those is so lovely this time of year! The cream, pink and green
tones fit in perfectly for fall decorating.

I spray painted the lanterns on the floor to a matte black that ties in with
the other black accents in the room. They were a dark brown color
before:

I hope these little DIY updates inspire projects in your home!

Is it weird our foyer is my favorite room in the house right now? It makes
me feel at ease and at home when I walk through this space.

And I love that our guests get such a warm welcome when they walk through
our front door:

Have you added any fall touches to your home? I’ve enjoyed decorating for
the season SO much this year. I feel like our house was made for fall!
🙂
